CEEPS 2003 Guest Speaker
The symposium kicked off on Friday,
April 25, with a welcome dinner and our guest speaker...
Robert C. Chisnall,
B.Sc., M.Ed.
"Recent
Trends in the Experiential Education Industry"
Rob Chisnall
was a terrific kick-off to our inaugural symposium: a professional
presenter with a relaxed informal style, solid information, and astute
observations on trends in the experiential education industry. Rob was so
impressed with the symposium concept that he came back to deliver more
sessions the next day, and then invited some CEEPS participants to tour
his unique all-rope aerial course at Camp Kilcoo after the conference. We
owe him a huge thank you for his support.
Rob has one of the most fascinating
backgrounds of anyone working in the Canadian outdoor education industry
today. He is an accomplished and respected climber, educator,
consultant, writer, and knot expert. He founded the High Endeavours
climbing and rescue school, has served as Outdoor Education Director at
Kilcoo Camp since 1985, and is currently an Adjunct Faculty Member of the
Outdoor and Experiential Education department of Queens University Faculty
of Education. As a forensic knot expert, he has been called upon to
serve as an expert witness in over 90 cases since 1983. Rob is also
credited with the development of numerous new knots and systems now in use
by mountaineers and spelunkers worldwide. He is in constant demand
as a speaker and consultant to a wide variety of industries, including
forensic science, safety engineering, education, forestry, and rescue.
Rob is also widely respected for his contributions to the Ontario Rock
Climbing Association (ORCA), both as a writer and as
President/Vice-President (1979-1986).

His varied qualifications and
