CEEPS 2005
Post-conference Report
The third Canadian
Experiential Education Practitioners Symposium (CEEPS) 2005 took place on
April 29-May 1 at the Bark Lake Leadership Centre, and was without a doubt
our most successful year yet. Attendance was up again - over 30,
with some practitioners travelling considerable distances to be there.
We are beginning to settle into a comfortable groove, and I am proud of
the results: a powerful, practical, and fun conference, created by fellow
practitioners eager to grow, learn, share, and interact with colleagues.

We welcomed a number of
experiential educators from the U.S. this year - a sign of our perceived
value and growing reputation, perhaps. They included some well
recognized individuals: Dr. Jim Cain of Teamwork and Teamplay, and Jason
Kipps of the Challenge Course Advisory - relationships that we hope to
keep and grow in coming years. The real strength of CEEPS is our
Virtual Space conference format and this year was no exception. It
is always rewarding to confirm the principle first proposed by Harrison
Owen for Open Space (on which V-Space is based): the "right
people" were in attendance.
It is particularly gratifying to
have so many people returning from previous years. More than any
other feedback, that tells me that we are doing the right thing, and that
people are getting real value. As in previous years, we had
great industry sector diversity. Organizations represented included:
 |
Corporate trainers
|
 |
Corporations
|
 |
Camps
|
 |
Universities
|
 |
Outdoor Education Sites
|
 |
School Boards
|
 |
Contract Facilitators
|
 |
Resorts
|
 |
Municipal Recreation Departments
and new this year...
|
 |
Zoos!
|
Also as in past years (2003,
2004) this report includes
descriptions of some of the sessions
delivered, some participant comments, and
plans for CEEPS 2006 and beyond.
Special thanks to Yolanda for the great photos found in this report!

(Yes, we have grown!)
Congratulations to Rebecca Chua,
who (by random selection) won a free registration to CEEPS 2006,
including food and accommodation!
Additional thanks this year go to Elswyth Fryer who
backed me up, Jim Cain who gave so much, the Bark Lake kitchen staff who
shone, and of course to everyone who attended CEEPS 2005 and made it what
it was.
